IIT-Hyderabad Effectively Implements NEP Recommendations

prof. BS Murty, the director of Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad (IIT-H), expressed confidence that the institute is efficiently implementing the recommendations of the National Education Policy-2020 (NEP).

Speaking to the media on Monday at the IIT-H campus, Prof. Murty highlighted the institute’s commitment to offering diverse courses in the digital mode and fostering international collaborations with various educational institutions worldwide. He further mentioned that IIT-H is keen on welcoming foreign students, encouraging them to pursue PhD programs with a generous scholarship of Rs. 60,000 per month. Additionally, the institute offers 15 M-Tech courses through digital platforms to facilitate professionals in advancing their education.

In line with NEP’s focus on multidisciplinary learning, IIT-H has limited engineering subjects to 60 percent of credits, allowing students to explore diverse electives for the remaining 40 percent. The elective choices span across liberal arts, Sanskrit, social sciences, and more.

Prof. Murty also shared that the institute has made it mandatory for students to spend time in the industry as part of their course curricula. Moreover, to support students engaged in research projects, IIT-H is open to granting semester-long academic breaks.
